NoPryZone.com is an independent lock review and physical security website. We test locks, write about lock picking, and tell you which locks are actually worth buying. We are not affiliated with any lock manufacturer. Nobody pays us to say nice things about their products.
When we say "we" in this policy, we mean NoPryZone.com and whoever is running it (currently one person who spends too much time thinking about deadbolts).
Here's the complete list of information we collect and why:
- Newsletter email address — only if you signed up for the newsletter. Stored on our server. Used to send you updates. That's it. You can ask us to delete it anytime.
- Guestbook entries — name (or alias), message, optional doodle, and timestamp. Stored in Firebase (Google). These are public by design — you're signing a guestbook.
- Lock submission requests — if you submit a lock for review, we store the lock name, type, and optional email. Used only to build our review queue.
- Poll votes — we use a temporary technical measure to prevent duplicate votes within a 24 hour window. No personal information is stored or retained beyond that period.
- Standard server logs — like every website, our server logs basic request info (page visited, timestamp, browser type). We don't actively use these for anything and they cycle out automatically.
NoPryZone.com may display third party advertisements on some pages, particularly on article and review pages. These ad networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve relevant ads. We don't control what data ad networks collect — their respective privacy policies apply.
We may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — things like which pages are popular and where traffic comes from. If enabled, Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data. You can opt out via Google's opt-out tool.
NoPryZone.com participates in the Amazon Associates Program. This means some links on this site go to Amazon and include a tracking tag. If you click one of those links and buy something on Amazon within 24 hours — anything, not just what we linked to — we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Amazon may set their own cookies when you click through. Their privacy policy applies to what happens on their site — we have no control over that.
The guestbook runs on Firebase Realtime Database (Google). When you sign the guestbook, your entry is stored on Google's servers under Google's privacy policy. We chose Firebase because it works well and we're not running a database server ourselves.
Everything else — poll votes, newsletter emails, lock submissions — is stored on our own Hostinger server in plain text files. No third party sees that data.
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers handle that request. This is pretty standard across the internet.
If you've submitted your email, signed the guestbook, or sent us a lock suggestion and you want that data removed — just ask. We'll delete it. We're not a corporation with a legal team to hide behind, we're a lock nerd with a website. Email us and it's gone.
- Request deletion of your newsletter email
- Request removal of your guestbook entry
- Ask what data we have about you (probably not much)
If we make meaningful changes to this policy we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. We're not going to secretly change it to say we're selling your data — that's not the kind of site this is.
Questions about this policy, data requests, or just want to argue about locks — reach us through the guestbook or the contact info on the about page.
